Canberra United like never before.

Don't tell anyone but the Canberra A-League is

alive.

It's a secret so be sure not to let anyone know.

There is a Canberra A-League Bid Committee and it's out and about doing the ground work.

Imagine a Canberra team with a marquee player. Who would you choose?

Imagine a young Canberran playing for his A-League home town side against a team containing Juninho

Imagine 1500 Urawa Reds fans coming to Canberra for an Asian Champions League game.

Why not? A-League for Canberra

It's going to take the city into Asia.

Eamonn, I understand you are unable to divulge who is behind this supposed bid, but can you explain why they are keeping it so hush hush? I don't live in Canberra anymore and I may have missed mention of this in the local press, so I apologise if this bid is common knowledge around those parts!

Anyway, to your question: A marquee player for Canberra... The Duke should be just about ready to finish up his career in Oz by the time this gets off the ground, so I'll have him when he's done with Newcastle United. Easy!

Good show!

My vote is for Canberra and Townsville for the first A-League expansion.

all will be revealed in 5 or 6 weeks, just getting things in place and I've agreed to wait for their timing rather than just blurt details off.

Important to make sure the groundswell of support is out there

also you probably haven't noticed but recently the FFA's Ben Buckley and Victory's Chairman Geofff Lord are all including Canberra in the list of new clubs

this hasn't happened before...read between the lines.

Viduka v Sydney FC Juninho with a 17 year old Canberran at left back,,,what crowd would come to watch that game in Canberra?

The Olympic Football, as well as decent crowds for the A-League pre season games in Canberra suggest there's a definite support for football.

The key is to engage the community and encourage them to come back week after week.

The poor old Cosmos didn't get much right, but any new bid would do well do make a case study of the failure of the Cosmos and learn from their mistakes.
