Novacastrians United

"We're all Novacastrians. Go the Jets."

I'm sitting at my computer, Monday morning 10am. Quiet suburban Canberra street, Gum trees, the odd maggie flies by. Suddenly a car screeches into next doors driveway, flag out the window. A black and white flag.

Out jumps John, Geordie John.

Wearing his beloved Newcastle United shirt. Explains the flag. They either won, or sacked another manager, I figured.

I run out to hear his tale of joy.

"What's this all about, the flag and the shirt, did Newcastle win?"

"No they didn't play."
"Well why the gear."
"For Newcastle the A-League, the Jets man."

"Do you think Canberrans have a clue at the link between black and white Newcastle English colours and the Jets getting to the final?"

"No probably not, but I do."

"Will all Newcastle United fans in England be supporting the Jets?"

"Of course, it's the name, we're Newcastle. Every Newcastle fan in England will watch the game, or look for the score. Of course."

Football passion in the Canberra Suburbs!

You can hear Geordie John on the Nearpost Tuesday and on the pod on this blog on Wednesday.
