Promising/Young Matildas Squads announced
FFA Release below
The Westfield ‘Promising Matildas’ have arrived in Canberra ahead of an international friendly against China U20 this Thursday at 4.00pm AEST.
“Every game that we can play against Asian opponents is important to further our development –particularly when it is against a power nation like China,” said National Women’s Coach, Tom Sermanni.
The Westfield ‘Promising Matildas’ squad offers an opportunity for players to further develop their skills and show their capabilities at international level and in a match situation.
The match will provide good preparation for players in the lead up to the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Women’s Championships to be held in Ho Chi Minh City next month.
The AFF Women’s Championships will see Australia play against Thailand, Philippines and Singapore.
Joining the Westfield ‘Promising Matildas’ in Canberra will be the Westfield Young Matildas (U20) who arrive on Friday for two matches against their Chinese counterparts on Saturday 27 September and Monday 29 September.
Many of the Young Matildas players will be in contention to participate in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U19 Championships to be held in Kuala Lumpur in October/November.

All praise to nearpost blog. By far the best source of information on local and national info re women's football. I am a fan and spread your anme whenever i can.
what is the difference between Promising Matildas and Young Matildas?
Young Matildas just that.
Promising Matildas I think includes some who are now too old for YM but may not yet have broken through to Matildas..at least not regularly. Keeps them in the loop and gives them further incentive ot remain in the game.
and also includes some who are in the YM but are expected to go to the next level enabling Coaches to work more closely with them in another group.
I hope the girls / ladies to well against China this coming week. From what I hear from inside the camp the China team looks the part and it will be a real work out for the teams. Good Luck
China are ready and off to the Under 20 World Cup in Chile next month so they should be way ahead of us in terms of focus and preparation.
We're building for the future.
I think the Promising Matildas has some who have actuallly made the Matildas ranks but are considered the younger brigade of the current Matildas (i.e. the future).
Beaumont in particular is a regular and Williams, Carrol, Chapman and Polkinghorne are pretty much established in the Matildas squad.
Also if you look at the PM squad there are some quite young ones who are not even regulars of the YM squad. And vice cersa. Kyah Simon is a Matilda very young but not in the PM squad this time.
I think it is for the younger of the Matildas and others who need 'more time' in camp such as the Sykes twins as well as some of the current YM's.
I think the programs that are in place are great. Gives the up and coming like the twins the opportunity to improve & develop while getting a taste of things to come if they perform.
PM 2 China 1. Any reports?
any score from today's game?
anyone see the game?
hi eamonn can you tell us if any canberra girls are in the Young Matildas squad going into camp in sydney. see ffa site.
