Chrissy Walters: Our latest Matildas

And the "Dubbo Dasher" Ashleigh Sykes is called up too, well that's nearly Canberra...at a short dash.

Great to see a player from Regional New South Wales make the breakthrough and good to see another Canberran in the full squad.

Amy Chapman and Lydia Williams are the other Canberra United players in the squad.

Full release below.

Westfield Matildas coach, Tom Sermanni, has named 18 players for the upcoming ASEAN Women’s Football Championships to be held in Ho Chi Minh City, from 9-21 October.

The squad includes experienced campaigners as well as some of the up-and-coming younger players who recently participated in the international friendly matches against China.

"What is pleasing about the squad is that it highlights just how much talent we have in women's football in Australia," said Sermanni.

"This tournament gives the next generation of players coming through for the Matildas the opportunity to gain some valuable international match experience, as well as step up to the next level."

Sermanni said that it was an exciting time for women's football in Australia with the Westfield W-League set to kick-off soon after the end of the ASEAN Championship on Friday 24 October.

The Westfield Matildas will meet Thailand, the Philippines and Singapore in their group matches. They depart for Vietnam on Monday.

I wish the girls all the best for the coming tour and hope they can do to these teams what they did to China. Great to see young players coming through even from Dubbo.
Does anyone know if these matches will be telecast on free or pay TV.

Well done Chrissy and Well done to Robbie Hooker. He is a very good coach and provides the perfect opportunity for young players to be identified.

If you are good enough and prepared to put in the hard yards Robbies progam is as good as any. Canberra is lucky to have him.
