Great game but a disappoinitng result. I thought the CU girls were all over them. We must finish our opportunities ;-{.

A couple of awful defensive errors saw CM score. We may be strengthened in the backline when the YMs come back.

Wonderful crowd. Next time we want even more there. Good value entertainment.

Well done girls. Rotten result. draw at least was the go. I took my 2 daughters and they were rapt. Game much faster and tougher than I thought it would be.

Thea Slatyer is great in the backline, but is covering up for Kiting who keeps making errros. She let in the second Newcastle goal and again last night. She needs to start playing at the higher level that is required, or take her off. The forwards need some lessons in actually shooting when they get near the goal so we can score. Our only goal was from a penalty last night and a keeper error in Qld and in Newcastle. Cian in the midfield was great again. Chapman is selfish with the ball and doesn't pass and misses all her shots. Hooker needs to seriously reconsider his tactics and team selection if he is really serious about winning. The girls are trying hard, but he should take responsibility for thier poor performance.

Adrian here: why post anonymous. Agree back line fell apart a bit. don't agree on forwards or harsh comment re chapman. creative player and challenges defenders, puts them on the back foot. one of the few that does it.

Hooker should be pleased with a lot of aspects of the game. CU played a better quality creative game than CM

hi all,
What a great afternoon of football.Great crowd. Not the result that we all wanted or deserved. The girls put in a mighty effort and met with a full on defencive feild set up after the red card - hard to beat. We must all remember that it is easy to sit back and critise individual players, who know they could have done better or should have done something different but could we have done any better ourselves? I know many of us wouldn't have done any better even in our hey day. I agree that the tatics and feild placement needs to be reveiwed to give an improved attacking line up. That is up to Robbie.
Our family made the trip to the ACT
for the game and weren't disappointed by the quality of game and that should answer some of the citics from the QLD game.(Hope they bothered to come and watch)
Well Done CU, look forward to the next game.

It was a great crowd and atmosphere, but if the girls want to be takne seriously they have to take the criticism as well as praise. They did not play well, even hooker says so in the media releases after the game. let's hope he plays a full strength team next week including all the YM players.

Great game girls I know that as the (short) season progresses you will iron out the glitches. Enjoyed the game, you are trying to 'play football'. Any anonymous knockers deserve to be ignored. If a player has flair and the courage to take defenders on, don't destroy it, we don't want to play 'ho hum' football.

I went with my husband and 2 sons and was proud to be watching female football.

Sadly I wasn't able to make the game because of a prior commitment. Shame about the result. What was the turn out like? Any idea of how many people were there?

The crowd was about 1600. Quite vocal and enthusiastic. It was a great afternoon. Pity about the result. Hope the punters come back in a fortnight.

hi Michael

Crowd was 1,600 according to W-League website report of the game:

Lol actually 1,637. From the Canberra United website:

http://www.canberraunited.com.au/default.aspx?s=newsdisplay&id=24745

"Second time around Brush calmly slotted the penalty again to level the scores to the delight of the 1637 strong Canberra crowd."

No problem with crtiticsim but have the guts to put a name to the crticism if you are going to name players = level playing field

I was at the game and thought CU was all over CM in the first half. Shame about the end result but the score was the score. I feel that CU will only get better but a shame that it is only a 10 week comp. Congrats to BU & Belconnen Soccer Club on the condition of the pitch I'm sure both teams were happy with it.

What a fabulous game!!! We travelled from the Fra South Coast to watch it. As entertainment (which everyone seems to want these days!!!) the game had it all. Level at half time, Mariner's keeper had a first half blinder, shock goal early goal against CU in second half, Mariner's keeper sent off and tricky little Polias subbed for replacement keeper, CU with the upper hand pushing hard for the last 20...Well you all saw it too. What a game!!! What more do we want??? I smiled the whole game. Loved it and love the women's game. Kate C.
