Seven Awards for FIFA Women’s World Cup

The Matildas fly to China today. Apart from the World Cup here are some other awards The Matildas might win. Apart from our weekly podcast where we talk Matildas, we'll also have a Podcast next week devoted entirely to the Matildas with FIFA Ambassador Julie Murray one of our special guest.


 

  1. The adidas Golden Ball Award

The adidas Golden Ball has been awarded to the outstanding player of the tournament at every FIFA Women's World Cup. Germany's Birgit Prinz claimed the accolade in 2003.

adidas Golden Shoe Award

The Golden Shoe will be awarded to the top scorer at the FIFA Women's World Cup 2007. Previous winners include Chinese football icon Sun Wen in 1999 and German's top player Birgit Prinz in 2003 both with 7 goals. Record-holder is Michelle Akers (USA) with 10 goals scored at the maiden edition in 1991.

FIFA Fair Play Award

The fairest team of the tournament will receive the FIFA Fair Play Award official, a diploma, and a $10,000 cheque to be put towards youth development.

Player of the Match

Best Goalkeeper

Will be selected by the FIFA Technical Study Group based on her performance throughout the final competition. The player will receive a diploma.
Silke Rottenberg (Germany) won this award in 2003.

f)     
All-Star Team

The FIFA Technical Study Group elects the All-Star Team of the tournament based on the player's performance throughout the final competition.

g)     
Most Entertaining Team

FIFA.com users will have the chance to designate the Most Entertaining Team of the competition.
The team will receive a diploma. In 2003, Germany collected this award.
