Canberra Football season is way to short? Time to change?

Now I don't know much about State and Territory football. But I was looking at the Football Federation Victoria's strategic direction document and had a few thoughts.

The size of the organisation presents different problems/possibilities to say Capital Football in Canberra where I'm based but given the changes in football and the continued possibilities for football it's interesting to see where one organisation is heading.

Here's just one thought.
The outdoor football season in Canberra goes officially for 17 weeks. There is an increasing number of academies, junior kickarounds, futsal, pre-season games.

There is big need to structurally extend the season for many, many reasons. But one is clearly because people, kids, just love and want more football. More than 17 weeks a year.

The city of Canberra, the sporting fraternity, the clubs, the businesses and Capital Football needs to respond and provide for this.

No longer is a 17 week football season good enough to a passionate growing number of players.

How is the season extended in your part of Canberra, or Australia?
