Forget Beckham, it's Celtic for Melbourne

SBS are reporting that Melbourne Victory are aiming to play Beckham in a glamour game in Melbourne later this year.

But BETTER than that they are trying to fix a game with Celtic for July.

Take that Craig Foster:)

celtic - did you see that champions league game maybe 2 years back, celtic v man u?

what i saw of the end of the 1st half ... it was like i was watching video on fast forward. then the second half slowed down to plain old fast ...

the glory days are in the past, but they punch above their weight.

It would be great to have Celtic here. However it shows how we still hark for Europe when that game, which after all would be an exhibition game, would probably be a sellout. While the ACL game last night, which at least means something, attracted less than 25,000 spectators.

Guido I would prefer to see an Aussie team in Asia than even the wonderful hoops coming out.

and really enjoyed the game last night

but I think friendlies against top European sides are still an attractive addition to pre-season, but the long term future is Asia Champions League.

and I too thought 23,000 a small crowd for football in Oz, we've come a long way quickly

And Clayton, glory days behind us, it was only 2003 Celtic went to UEFA Cup Final.

We may never win the Champions League again, but nor will about 200,000 other clubs. Last 16 of Champs League and you think our Glory days are behind us....

god help the rest of European football then

The ACL crowd was disappointing but there were a few factors. I went to the game and noticed that there were virtually no kids there - Victory has a large family fan base but they wont go mid-week during school terms. A-League never has mid-week games so the fans arent used ot this. Why cant they play these games on weekends? All Asian league seasons are over at this time of year.
The other factor is you may not get some members as they have to fork out another $25 on top of season membership.
Go Victory!

all Asian leagues have jsut started oneor two games in and obviously they play on the weekends so hence the midweek ACL games.

As a former teacher those kids should know school just ain't that important..go to the game kids:)
