Victory must win tonight, Adelaide too.
Dramatic football in Liverpool this morning as Liverpool beat Arsenal 4-2 in the all-English Euro Champions League clash.
Melbourne Victory will need the same passion, spirit, if they are to win their crucial Asian Champions League qualifier tonight against Japanese side Gamba Osaka.
Can Victory do it?
Not if you lisen to ABC Canberra's Tim Gavel he doesn't even know the game is on!
Archie Thompson is out, Carlos Hernandez also out.
With Victory limited by a salary cap, two key attacking players must surely restrict their chances.
But Osaka having played three games in eight days and then having to travel to Melbourne may not be at their best.
Victory have home advantage and in this tournament this is priceless. Asian teams having to travel south, a long way south, for midweek games, must give Melbourne an edge.
They'll need it.
Sydney FC's performances against cashed up Urawa last season should also give Victory some hope.
Gamba might have the money, even the players in Brazilians Lucas and Bare and Japanese playmaker Endo, but Victory may have the desire.
Despite what Craig Foster might think, sometimes it's passion that gets you over the line.
Victory must win. Anything less and they are surely out of this year's Asian Champions League.
For Adelaide United away in Vietnam against Binh Duong a win is less crucial, in theory. But two wins against Binh Duong in the next two games, home and away, will give Adelaide a great chance of being the first Australian side to go through the group stage.
No Bruce Djite or Paul Agostino. Lacking in firepower but can United win?
Why not.
Victory game is on Fox kick-off 7.30 followed by Adelaide in Vietnam.
