Two Canberrans in Socceroos squad.

Tuggers boys in the mix!

Canberrans Carl Valeri and Nikolai Topor-Stanley will play alongside Harry Kewell in the upcoming Socceroos game against Ghana.

With David Carney the incumbent left back, albeit not playing at his club Sheffield United, Nikolai Topor-Stanley has a chance to put pressure on Carney for the permanent left-back position, if not in the coming games, certainly in the next twelve months.

Watch this space. Oh and Carl Valeri to start against Ghana. The Tuggers boys are doing well!

Fozzie: How not to do a Carney

Fans and Youth Coaches would have groaned, thumped the TV, or just watched in stunned silence as Socceroo David Carney missed that chance in the dying minutes of the recent game against China.

In his recent article on the World Game website Craig Foster gives a specific piece of advice for kids and coaches. Worth a thought.

Fozzie tells us how he did it and how you can show your kids not to do a Carney

Of course we could have won the game had Carney finished another beautiful ball from Bresc, and for any youth coaches out there watching the game, ensure your kids take the ball with the leading foot, being the left in this case, and strike with the path of the ball into the far corner, not open up the body to play with the back foot as Carney did. This takes more time and opens up the ball for the defender to make a challenge, and is also more difficult as the back foot has to change the path of the ball.

Being left footed, normally David would strike through the ball to help it on its way, but no doubt fatigue played a part late in the game.

English laughing at Australians...and I don't like it.

Nicky Carle (Genclerbirligi, Turkey) to Bristol City for $1.3 million, David Carney (Sheff United, England) to Anderlecht or Bayern Munich for maybe $3million or $4 million.

Only six months ago these guys were A-League players.

Someone is making a lot of money out of cheap A-League and Australian Internationals and it's not former clubs Newcastle Jets and Sydney FC.

Socceroo and former Sydney FC star David Carney scored the only goal in Sheffield United's 1-0 win over Premier League Bolton Wanderers in the FA Cup overnight.

Carney has already turned down a $3 million dollar transfer to Belgium side Anderlecht and is waiting to see if reported $4 million interest from German giants Bayern Munich comes to anything.

It was only six months ago Carney was running around for Sydney FC.

Last seasons A-League Player of the Year and Newcastle Jets Tricky Nicky Carle has just moved from Turkish side Genclerbirligi to Bristol City (who?) after just six months. Transfer fee is $1.3 million.

So have these players improved in six months?

Not on your life.

Imagine what that money could do for the Newcastle Jets or Sydney FC.

If our players are going to leave, and clearly they are, then Australian clubs need to be able to increase the transfer fee.

Clubs should be able to use Nicky Carle and David Carney, both Socceroos, as an example of the standard of player in our league.

Nathan Burns, Bruce Djite, Danny Vukovic, Nikolai Topor-Stanley and co need to be signed to long-term deals then sold, if they must go, for a transfer fee somewhere significantly higher than the $50,000 Sydney were reported to get for Carney.

Come on Australia the English are taking us for a ride, and it hurts!

The rise and rise of the new wizard of Oz!

David Carney is a wizard from Oz.

Not my view it's the view of the Guardian, one of England's better newspapers

Carney scored the only goal in the FA Cup match in his club's 1-0 away win over Premier League side Bolton.

He's turned down a $3 million dollar move to Anderlecht and is waiting to see if the Bayern Munich interest comes to anything!
