Lyall Gorman leads the way

Amidsts all the doom and gloom of the A-League crowds and financial streams and the less than promising response from FFA CEO Ben Buckley...we finally have some sense and some optimism.

Lyall Gorman a man who was lead the Central Coast Mariners through the first five turbulent years of a large new national business has finally spoken.

And he makes sense and gives a sense that he is way way more on top of the A-League issues than Ben Buckley and even Archie Fraser.

Canberra A-League Franchise

With expansion talk being fuelled by the FFA. Wollongong and Canberra and others have been invited to bid. Tim Cahill is supporting, but not financing, the Wollongong bid. Carl Valeri, Joe Simunic, Caitlin Munoz will support a Canberra bid.

But the Central Coast Mariners are already in. CEO Lyall Gorman is on Nearpost Radio tonight talking about the Mariners experience, the initial investors and indeed what the other new franchises need.

Lyall Gorman's wife. (Apologies he didn't give me her name.)

Second investor:
Futureschool. A Central Coast education company run by Dennis King. His company operates across 17 countries. He put in 500,000.

A-League Franchise: $6 or $7 million

Central Coast Mariners CEO Lyall Gorman on funds required for starting an A-League team today.

You'd want at least $6 or $7 million of committed capital, and you'd want a lot of it up front. You can drip feed some, but you need to have it upfront so you're not chasing your tail. You going to have to be prepared to wear some losses in the first two or three years. So you need to have that cushion there so you're not behind the eight ball.
