Fox Sports FC - any football? Show needs further tweaking dunnit.

Now I love a good yarn as much as the rest of them but is it me or has Fox Sports FC just reduced itself to talk and more talk.......wake up!

You'd hardly know the show was about football from the visual hour.

Hardly a piece of football action in the show last night, especially in the first 45 mins. A good interview with Rhys Williams - and interesting interviews from Kossie and the Chair of Adelaide United.

But where is the football?

A talkfest - or a bore fest?

Really if we do need to hear Harps and Bozzo's opinions on Adelaide United - at least put it with some season footage so we don't have to listen so intently to the "analysis." But surely the key men - the Chair and Kossie covered anything the presenters could tell us. We're not thick we heard what they said and can make our own judgement.

And when time is short - as Andy Maher always tells us it is - we simply repeat, get guests to repeat what Harps and Bozza asks.

"Heard anything more on the Tevez move to Milan," Bozza/Harps asks. To which ex-star London based footballer says...no but it looks like he'll move to Milan in January.

Hasn't the guys from Fox heard of the internet - we're all over it!

We want more football video, more football analysis through video, and if we're having good interviews, and we are, lets cut the Harps and Bozza drivel - time is too short.

And get Mel to host the show - she's at the games, she's got the knowledge and she's a great host. Do it!

Andy is fine but he doesn't add anything in terms of footy nous, footy credibility. He doesn't feel like "he is football."

Fox Sports: Thai's can still qualify - possibly favourites to as well!

Now I know Australia won last night but Fox Sports continue to suggest this was Thailand's last chance.

They must win - or get a draw to stay alive was the verdict from Australia's best football commentator, Simon Hill. Simon is always on the ball, pretty much always correct on this stuff so I was surprised when he went down this line again and again.

Well I reckon Thailand are not only right in the mixer - they are my favourites to take the second spot.

If they beat Oman - not impossible - and Australia beat Saudi Arabia - not impossible, guess waht Thailand go through.

And we need them in the second phase to get two wins!

Just thought I let everyone know. Not like Fox Sports Football to get this stuff sooooo wrong!

We are FOOTBALL. A-League: Football produces record viewing for FoxSports.

Pay TV Audience for Melbourne Victory v Brisbane Roar was a record for a regular season A-League game. 155k.

Presumably if it was on FTA we'd triple the audience, (plus nursing homes where the TV's are always on) given Fox has a penetration rate of around 30%.

We just won't go away will we!

Socceroos/Asia Cup 2015: TV Money to save the A-League

But will we ever use money in football wisely in Australia?

Socceroos are the big big drawcard and with World Cup qualifiers on FTA in coming years and the Asian Cup in Australia in 2015 we have a lot to sell.

Not to mention the A-League which is what really needs the money to kick on.

Jesse Finks talks of rumoured figures below. And if Fox wanted to get in early you'd imagine we'd get more money than $42 mill per year.

A nice ten A-League teams with $3 million per year per club would be great - but given each W-League team needs $1 million per year (wouldn't that be nice) and all the other increasing costs from o/s teams, Socceroo payments and of course ahem grassroots and coaching programs - and the soon to be increased if we get the TV deal FFA staff, can we really give the A-League what it needs.

$60 million per year is probably a 4 year $250 million deal approx - surely the Socceroos and Asian Cup Hosts can lock in the cash.

Last year Buckley turned down a revised offer made in late 2009 by Fox Sports that included a free-to-air component and which would have replaced the $130 million, seven-year deal made in 2006 with Premier Media Group, owners of Fox. The new deal would have locked in FFA until after the 2015 AFC Asian Cup, which is to played in Australia.

In the press this figure was put at $60 million a year. Insiders at FFA I have spoken to have it at $42 million. Whether it was $42m or $60m, or something in between, the exact figure was significantly more than the $17 million a year averaged out on the original seven-year 2006 deal.

Fox Sport FC saves the A-League - but were the FFA watching.

A wide ranging discussion on the state of the game, mainly the A-League, was entertaining if depressing viewing last night on PAY TV.

Although given FFA's lack of vision, planning and direction Ben Buckley may well have been scribbling notes prior to FFA's Thursday Board meeting.

While Andy Harper, Bozza, Simon Hill, Mark Rudan and Mike Cockerill all flew through the issues - and there were many - the problem is we are still no clearer about our future.

Why is it the FFA didn't have a plan B - the so-called A-League review all completed and ready to go on Tuesday - after the Bid.

Why didn't FFA have Western Sydney, the Fury etc locked in or out, by now.

Mike Cockerill raised one stunningly naive solution.

Frank Lowy should put his hand in his pocket to fund the League, Fund the Fury and Fund Western Sydney.

There has been plenty of money spent, already. Too much I'd argue, with salaries clearly depleting owner resources.

More of the same from Frank. That is not a sustainable business model Mike, so forget that tosh.

However agreed with Mike when he said we started the league early, with mid-week games, and Ben said that was our line in the sand, but we're changing again.

Reminds Mike of the NSL. Absolutely.

How many more changes to the preferred model do we need? How many can we take?

Probably lots, but proactive or under Ben do we always have to be reactive?

Fox deal was too long

It's clear now.

After the first year FFA re-negotiated a seven year deal with Fox Sports and all the clubs get $1.2 million as a result.

But after season three if we had another deal to negotiate with crowds of 15,000 average, 50,000 etc in Melbourne who knows what value we could of extracted and how the clubs revenue may have jumped to the full salary cap.

Hindsight is wonderful.

It's not FTA that is hurting the A-League, it's the length of the tv deal.

Now we have a problem. Who wants to go to an A-League game if they watch an empty stadium on FTA in the next deal?

Fox Sports aim to boost crowds?

As A-League crowds plummet or so it seems Fox Sports have come up with a novel way to get me to a game.

Ross Aloisi as co-commentator on more than one game a weekend! I can't take it.

Mike C and Robbie are not considered the finest pairing around my A-League friends but putting Ross into the mix is a step even lower.

His understanding of the game leaves a lot to be desired and this from a man who played so much. But he analyses the way he played; and it certainly gives the fan an insight into how a "professional" dog-fighting midfielder views the game.

Not pretty and gives the watching fan little insight.

Limited articulation from Ross and Robbie while fine in the studio, when you are watching a game, it's dire, it really is. Can't we do better?

Can't we have better off-siders. A dodgy commentator is one thing, but putting a dodgy match analyser alongside is hard to take. It really is!

Only one thing for it; I'll have to go to a game at this rate.

We pay for....Ross Aloisi

Yep, Fox viewers are paying Ross Aloisi for his commentary and analysis.
Which goes to show that useless midfield cloggers are no better, or even less informed than the average fan. Average fans I might point out aren't allowed anywhere near a microphone.

Analysis from Ross:

Ross on the ball: Leckie has too improve his close control at this level.

Of course the guy runs 80 metres within one minute of this statement against the ACL Champions Pohang Steelers, chucks a step over and beats one, two, three maybe four players...oh and he scores.

Ross two: After 60 minutes he's my man of the match speaking of Flores.

How many games has Ross watched. Players can change games in the last 30 mins and become...yes you guessed it the "man of the match."

Ross three: Pohang are not in the game.

A great chance emerges within 30 seconds of Ross's analysis. As Pohang poor forward, press hard the longer the game goes on and generally take the game to Adelaide. Nice one Ross.

Ross four: Carl Veart is the one of the most intelligent people I know...well in football intelligence.

Ross five: That's not a booking!

Come on Fox, it was the Asian Champions League winners and we get a Dudley!

Fox Football viewing figures drop

Watching North Queensland Fury v Newcastle Jets last night a strange thing happened.
After about 15 minutes I turned the TV off!

Why?

I couldn't take Ross Aloisi's painfully poor articulation anymore. It disrupted the game, it hurt that bad!

Did the A-League Die?

So this is the best season ever? Well how come Fox Sports presented a show designed from 1967.

Get six talking heads,
all men, in black suits and no tie and get them to talk and talk and talk. Missed it? Well just imagine the staring at the picture above for 90 minutes.

In a world where we can't do anything for more than 15 seconds Fox produced that!!!

Now most of those guys are interesting in a small group, informed and often entertaining...I said most..but put them all together and Paul Trimboli, John Kosmina, Mark Bosnich and Robbie Slater were wasted. Wasted I tell ya!

I couldn't bear it. Hardly a goal to be seen, fast-paced, if you are ninety and insights...hardly any unless you like hearing about how useful Kevin Muscat could be.

That's analysis, that's our Season 5 A-League?

So lift your game Fox, 90 minutes of pure drivel. Has the budget run out already, have the ideas run out.

It's 2009, there has been one million TV shows to study on what works and what doesn't and if former Teacher Andy Harper used that style in a classroom, any classroom he'd be laughed out of the school. Does Andy have any input?

And TV is much more visual. Who organised that rubbish?

And interesting Simon Hill wasn't there. Maybe he has a clause, I don't do crap.

Fox Sport TV Deal to be re-negotiated

This is a blog, full of the blarney and here's the latest.

FFA are to renegotiate the Fox TV deal at Christmas. That's it no more no less. That's what I heard from those who know or think they do.

A new deal, including FTA, maybe with the league expanding a new deal is possible.

That said would any FTA station touch the A-League?

They won't show NRL or AFL live across the country and these codes are pumped across all media all the time, so why would they take A-League games which would not get big ratings on a Friday night across Australia in my opinion.

We need FTA, we also need better match commentators because in my view only Simon Hill fits the bit as a commentator of the required standard. Andy Harper and Paul Trimboli are great as the offsiders but we need quality commentators...or else FTA or not it's hard to stomach.

So come on you young Aussies get commentating on the games and entertain us. We football fans deserve the best, and we ain't getting it yet are we?
