Friday shorts:

David Lewis heads to London
A-League to miss star men this weekend
Capital Football Presentation Night tonight.
Radio Show Launch date.
A-League game of the weekend.

David Lewis heads to London

Former Daily Telegraph journo David Lewis has quit Australia and set up as a freelance in London. You may have noticed his recent articles and TV interviews popping up allover the Aussie media.

Lewis, clearly has found a niche for himself overseas. He has strategically, it appears to me, targeted an Aussie a week for an interview. Obviously there is strong demand for his content over here and his previous links with the players involved certainly helps his efforts.

Last night he did Mark Bosnich on Total Football, and recently he's done Celtic star in the news Scott McDonald.

Interesting and smart move David. Shame about the weather!

A-League to miss star men this weekend

With the Olyroos preparing for their Wednesday qualifier against Lebanon, the A-League will be missing Nathan Burns, Mark Bridge and many many others.

So the league becomes a lottery, team performances have to drop as many players are whisked away.

Frustrating, yes, but a chance for others to shine I guess. Let's hope they do.

Capital Football Presentation Night tonight.

The dress theme is black and white. Can you afford to wear the same frock as last year!

Nearpost radio show presenter and former Young Matilda Nicole Somi spent most of Wednesday shopping for that special number.

Did she get? All will be revealed tonight.

With over 460 guests arriving should be a great night in Canberra football.

And certainly combining the men and women's awards nights in the last few years ahs certainly sparked the event:)

Radio Show Launch date.
Fox Sports Simon Hill is expected to launch Canberra's only football radio show on December 4th.

Are you a football fan, young or old, male or female, in Canberra who would like to show your support. Email me and I'll send you an invitation

A-League game of the weekend.

Mariners v The Roar

It should be a cracker. Mariners are slowly starting to struggle. Key players out and a few injuries starting to creep in are making them vulnerable.

But with their great start it will be many weeks before they are out of the four.

Keeper Vukovic, Mrdja and the holidaying Damien Mori are definitely out.

Mori signed for six weeks with a deal saying he could go on holiday to the USA after 4! Lawrie McKinna what were you thinking!

Nik Mrdja is being pressured to play but looks like he could miss the game and maybe the season.

So the forward line that gave the Mariners the start to dream of, is now defunct. Expect their ladder position to slip.

And the Roar have started to score.

But we all know that young players are inconsistent and Micheal Zullo an Robbie Kruse can't be expected to perform to the same standard every week can they?

Anyway Frank Farina has more choices in the forward line. Better choices than The Roar have ever had since they started in the A-League.

They are well structured and a few goals could see The Roar's confidence rise considerably.

Should be a cracker with I think the Roar to win 2-1.

The Mariners may lack a little in creativity, and as other teams settle down, and injuries blunt the Mariners attack they may find goals hard to come by.

An interesting test for both sides, not least the coaches.

Friday shorts!

News and thoughts in Friday briefs or shorts, take your pick!

Young Matildas
Mark Bosnich
Ruben Zadkovich
Scott McDonald
SydneyFC v Melbourne Victory

Canberrans Grace McGrath-Gill and Lydia Williams start their Asian Cup campaign with the Young Matildas tomorrow in China. Good luck to them. Lydia is the Captain and was back-up keeper in the women's World Cup, so she should be talking Chinese by they time she gets home...oh and she has a broken wrist, but she is still gooing to play!

Great to see Mark Bosnich on Total Football last night. Whatever your opinions of Bozzo I think it's fantastic to see someone able to turn their addictions around. Well done Bozzo and he's on the bench for QPR this weekend in England!

Wish I could turn my addictions round so easily, but that's another story:)

Sydney FC's Ruben Zadkovich was on Totatl Football last night. Articulate, thoughtful and sensitive. A very different image from the one he presents of the pitch. He said FC Coach Anthony Crea stirs up the boys and ensured they gave Danny and The Roar boys a good kicking in the first few minutes. It worked well as Ruben got, "stuck in early."

Scott McDonald scored in the last minute to give Celtic a win over AC Milan. Who? The Champions of Europe were defeated by an Australian goal. Eat your heart out Craig Foster:)

Sydney FC are inviting fans to come dressed for the occasion. The best dressed fans for the Melbourne gameon Saturday night will get th chance to do the toss with David Beckham in front of 85,000 fans. Only 3,000 tickets left. Great idea Sydney. Somehow they have to convert some of those 85,000 into regular Sydney fans. I'd settle for 25,000 every week at Aussie Stadium. Let's hope they get over 20,000 this week.

And the win..to Sydney 2-1, but the ref must protect Juninho.

I do not want to see Kevin Muscat and co kick the skill and Brazilian out of this and coming games.

Weekends Shorts!

John Aloisi saga goes on. He currently has no club! The market place has hit Aloisi hard.

Demanding too much money from Sydney, Juninho has taken his place and money!

And now Aloisi is left without a club.

Wellington Phoenix are hoping to get 15,000 for their first A-League game against Melbourne Victory for their opening game of the season at the Cake Tin, Wellington's home ground.

With over 6,000 for a pre-season game against Sydney FC, Wellington may well reach their target.

But little coverage in the local media in Wellington has local football fans complaining. Sounds like it's hard work over in NZ to get any traction for football in the local media.

Still if they get 15,000 for the first game, media coverage will follow.

14 Aussies are playing in the EPL this year. The biggest ever number of players from Australia.

And there are over 150 playing in Europe. Imagine the quality of the A-League if we had most of these players back home. Of course it would never happen, but League, Union and AFL would struggle if they lost some of their best players.

It's amazing the A-League is so strong given we lose so many players.
