Canberra's best male team

Thought I'd start the Canberra Eleven. Basically the best guys running around from Canberra. I'll have a female version in a few weeks

Positions? Well, we need a goalie and a broad definition of defence, midfield and forwards.

Now, I'm hardly an expert so open to criticism and offers of players. Think you have a better player, then email and I'll update the list.

So here goes:

1

Defence
2 Nikolai Topor-Stanley
3. Joe Siminuc
4. Ned Zelic
5. Lindsay Wilson

Midfield
6. Carl Valeri
7. Shaun Ontong
8. Kaz Patafta
9.Matthew Kemp

Forwards
10 Adam Casey
11.Peter Buljan

okay, who have I left out who should be in, and who is the best goalkeeper going around?
Peter correctly pointed out Kaz,how did I forget him given I'd just posted a story on him two or three posts ago.
Out goes Alex Castro ex Cosmos and now local player in comes Kaz Patafta, Benfica

Hi Anonymous

Based on guys currently playing and I assume these guys aren't. Maybe I didn't make this clear enough

which begs the question time to start the best ever Canberra 11.

Re; Keeper, who's the guy Matt Hall wrote a chapter about in the first edition of The Away Game? He was from Canberra and went to Scotland, think he played for Queen's Park?

Dunno, but I remember the interview.
Didn't think he was from Canberra, stuff like that usually sticks in my wee brain, but I'll check it out.

cheers

otherwise we still need a goalie...I know they are crazy but you need one...or even two if you can get away with it:)

Best goalkeeping talent ever produced out of a Canberra Junior = Tony Giannasca, no one would come close....

Australian Youth Rep
Played NSL & NSW State League

A pity he did not secure international club status....

Sure Tony was the best, I'd agree with that, but I'm looking for the best keeper around now.

I'll include Tony in the best eleven Canberrans ever.

thanks for your post

Another one for the all time eleven: Andrew Bernal, former socceroo defender who played for Reading, Ipswich Town and Nottingham Forrest.

I agree that Tony Giannasaca should be the goalie, but I disagree with some of the selections. I would have Danny Macor playing up front instead of Adam Casey, I am suprised that Marco Peronovic and Elliott Zwangobani have been left out.

Eamonn said...

Who would you drop for Elliott?

And surely Marco is retired.

Danny Macor over Adam Casey..understand your thinking but I've gone for A-League over local league as I believe the gap is significant

As far as keepers go we should promote local talent and Brett Dickens is one of the best that has ever played in the ACT Premier League. Played in goal for Tuggeranong United and Canberra City and also played ACT Rockets and is widely regarded as a great 'keeper. Started with Brisbane Lions before moving to the capital.....also turned down a move to the 'cash kings' Canberra Deakin (now Canberra FC) so he must be brilliant.

I think Andy Bernall was a Canberra boy.

nathan denham is currently the best in the ACT closely followed by codey larkin. both young and strong.

brett dickens is too old.

perinovic plays for monaro div 3

macor is mehh and has an attitude and a half

ante juric will make a return to canberra fc next season.

tony prenzoski is a good striker.

ivo de jesus? is he still in nsw state league somewhere? last i heard he was at dulwich hill. ex cosmos player.

paul ivanic on fire this season 19 goals in 13 games.

daniel alifi scored over 26 in div one. surely he could play premier league.
