Sally Shipard writes about the focus for the Matildas.
Sally Shipard, Matilda's star is back in Canberra after the Matilda's 2-0 loss to DPR Korea. The Matildas will almost certainly miss out on the Olympics next year as a result of that loss.

Hi guys, Sally here,

Ok so we didn't qualify for the Olympics...lets now worry about this year. We can deal with 2008 when it comes around. We are now focusing on our world cup campaign, not a bad consolation.

In 3 months time we will be competing at the World Cup in Beijing, China.

The Matildas are getting together up north in Coffs Harbour, a warmer place than having to come to freezing cold Canberra:-)

The Pacific Bay resort in Coffs will be the training base for our preparation for the World Cup.

Of course we are all very upset about the results in the last 2 games against North Korea, we did throw everything we had at them. We left nothing on the pitch and everyone performed as well as they could .

It's hard coming home and concentrating on training again, but knowing that we have the World Cup to look forward to makes the pain of not qualifying for 2008 less painful.

However I think next year, when the build up to the Olympics starts, is the time this will really sink in.

So for now we all remain positive and are all determined to prove to the world at this years World Cup what we are capable of...

now back to the study!

See you

Sal.

Sally, first it's brilliant to be able to read your thoughts here. Thanks heaps.

I love the Matildas and would love to watch every game. The game at Coffs Harbour was the first one I've been able to watch, which is very frustrating. Would love it if SBS bit the bullet and committed to showing all Matildas games. With the Socceroos on Fox, you guys would be in danger of developing a larger following than them!

Some say that the womens' games aren't as good as the mens' because it's not as fast and hard. Well some others of us watch the football for the tactics and skills, and in that you guys compete very well indeed. It is a different style of game, but when you get used to it as something in its own right, it's really very brilliant.

One query. What has happened to Sasha McConnell? She got a bit of media at one point and I know she played some games with you guys, then we never heard anything more of her. I loved her pink shoes.
