Capital Football Award Winners (List below)

Two Men’s Premier League players shared the spoils when Belconnen’s Danny Macor and Woden Valley’s Victor Yanes were named as 2007 ‘Players of the Year’ at Capital Football’s Presentation Gala at the Auditorium in Erindale last night.

It’s Macor’s second ‘Player of the Year’ honour with his first coming a staggering 13 years ago while it’s Yanes’ first time for the award. Nicholas Caggiano from Belconnen United won the Premier League Pathway ‘POY’ while Yianni Karabalis won the award in the Premier 18’s division.

In the Women’s Club Pink Premier League category, Kate Stork from ANU grabbed the ‘Player of the Year’ medal for her efforts this season which saw ANU narrowly miss out on the top four ahead of Belconnen’s Nicole Somi and Weston Creek’s Louisa Marzotto. She also took a place in the Capital Football Women’s Invitational squad who demolished American touring side Cal United mid season.

Australian representative, Chris Bush, was named as the ACTAS ‘Player of the Year’ for his outstanding year which saw him take his first steps on the international stage as a member of the Qantas Joeys who took part in the Toyota International Youth Football Championship in Japan. Also Bush played an important role in the ACTAS remaining undefeated during the National Institute Challenge.

Other awards included Belconnen United as the inaugural ‘Premier Club Champions’ for their impressive season which saw the Premier Pathway, Club Pink Premier League and Men’s Premier League sides making the Grand Finals. The University of Canberra was crowned as ‘State League Club Champions’ for their grand final victories in Division 2, 5 and 6.

Tuggeranong’s Scott Conlon won the men’s ‘Coach of the Year’ for his efforts in guiding the Premier League side to fifth on the ladder in their debut season, missing out on a top four and subsequent a finals spot by just one point. Patrick Mills was named as women’s ‘Coach of the Year’ following Belwest’s League Champions title in the Club Pink Premier League and Gerard Fitsimmons from Belsouth won the ActewAGL junior ‘Coach of the Year’ award.

Along with the awards, long time Capital Football servant and referee Chris Conti was inducted into the Hall of Fame to join the likes of Australian football ambassador Johnny Warren and Socceroo Harry Williams. Also, former Capital Football President, Walter Valeri, and veteran referee Bill Simeonovic were honoured with Life Memberships.
