CHONGQING: World champions DPR Korea scraped past Australia 2-1 to book their berth in the semifinals of the AFC U-19 Women’s Championship on Monday evening.

The Young Matilidas, who needed nothing less than a win to stay alive in the competition, took the lead in the 13th minute through Tameka Butt who sent DPR Korea goalkeeper Kim Un Ju the wrong way from the spot.

The Koreans hit back and equalized in the 41st minute through Cha Hu Nam but it was not until seven minutes from the final whistle that the deciding goal was scored. This was again a penalty, taken cleanly by Ra Un Sim.

The penalty was preceded by the sending-off of the Korean team assistant coach Sin Ui Gun who was given his marching orders for rushing into the pitch and misbehaving with the referee.

DPR Korea coach Choe Kwang Sok said after the match: “Today’s match was very important for us. Had we lost the game, the next match would have been a tough nut to crack for us. And luckily we won today.”

Australian coach Alen Stajcic was disappointed with the defeat. “It was a competitive and close game and though we played well in the second half luck was not with us today.”

DPR Korea will play Japan in the last group game two days hence while Australia clash with Myanmar.

Alens said his Team didnt have the luck in the first game and again in this one.
Unfortunately you have to make your own luck Alen.
It starts with the quality of players and in this case the lack of technical ability compared with the other two nations. Its not all about the physical size.
It also helps if you pick the best around the country and not just the majority of NSWIS players. After all he is the NSWIS womens coach.
Maybe its time already to find a new coach.
