Football v Rugby Union:
Football continues to rate well on PAYTV. The Socceroos, who used to play in front of dismal crowds only a few years ago, outrated all the recent AFL, NRL games shown on PAYTV over the las two weeks; and even the Rugby Union showpiece final between The Waratahs and Crusaders.
330,000 Paytv viewers tuned into the Socceroos home qualifier beating the Waratahs biggest ever game by a mere 6,000. But a win is a win is a win as they say.
David Dale from the SMH reports:
On Pay TV, the most watched were the World Cup soccer(he meant football he truly did) qualifier between Australia and Iraq (Fox Sports 3) 330,000; NRL Wests Tigers v Cowboys (Fox Sports 2) 291,000; Australia's Next Top Model (Fox8) 232,000; and The Simpsons (Fox8) 221,000. The ABC triumphed with Spicks And Specks (1.37m) and The Gruen Transfer (1.27m) and SBS scored with a new season of Top Gear (786,000).
