News Magazines Launches New Weekly Football Magazine
September 2, 2008

News Magazines today announces the launch of a new title to add to its existing portfolio of men’s sports and specialist magazines, Australian Football Weekly.

Targeting the growing population of Football followers, Australian Football Weekly will deliver a magazine that does not currently exist for Australian Football fans: a national weekly publication with comprehensive, up-to-date news, fresh interviews, interesting features and insightful comment about the game at home and overseas.

Editor David Hall, who joins the magazine from FoxSports.com.au, says Australian Football Weekly will have a strong editorial voice based on genuine knowledge and love for the game;

“Australian Football Weekly will use quality sports writing alongside comment and opinion from respected figures in the game including former Socceroos stars Paul Trimboli and David Lowe. It will include content that appeals to all fans of the game, building a sense of community and mateship. Our vision is a magazine for Football fans, by Footballs fans.”

Roy Morgan Research shows a significant audience and demand for Australian Football Weekly, with 1.3 million regular Football participants, whose interests include the A-League competition but also encompass the World Cup, international clashes involving the Socceroos, the world’s greatest stars, the UK Premier League, and Australian stars overseas.

The target reader for Australian Football Weekly is Generation Active, a sports-mad Football lover, with an interest in fashion who is male, aged 18-34. ABC socio-economic group, an urban dweller, tech savvy and heavy magazine consumer.

Australian Football Weekly will include local covers for each market and its design will emphasise the inclusion of the official Hyundai A-League match day guide, The Full 90, to reinforce its reputation as the best source for Football news in Australia. As well as distribution via newsagencies nationally, the magazine will be sold at the A-League games every week.

The launch of Australian Football Weekly on 11 September 2008 will be heavily supported by Football Federation Australia and A-League clubs, New Limited newspapers, FOXSPORTS and FoxSports.com.au.

Why am I surprised. Not one mention of female football or its followers. Here we go again. Another one for the boys. Eventually the girls will learn their place. In the home and...

Is there no-one in this country who realises the potential of a football magazine targeted to all the girls who play football.

It amazes me that no-one, YET, has tapped our women and girls from a business viewpoint.

Why is this?

What a market of spenders, future spenders etc and they are playing football in huge numbers.

Who is catering to that market?

I'll interview the guy doind this weekly and get let you know why he's forgetting the women.

cheers
