Fischer-Massa supports Canberra A-League bid

Canberra A-League Bid on the front foot!

Fischer-Massa supports Canberra A-League bid

Successful businesswoman and football fan Mrs Millissa Fischer-Massa has thrown her support behind the Canberra A-League bid.

“We can work together and I look forward to seeing a winning team in Canberra. It’s very exciting.” said Fischer-Massa.

Fischer-Massa brings her wealth of football experience and business expertise to the bid. She currently owns the Victorian Premier League Champion side Altona Magic who won the Victoria Premier League in 2008.

Bid Leader Ivan Slavich said, “It’s great to have Millissa on board. She’s passionate about a Canberra team, passionate about seeing the team succeed in the A-League and beyond.

“Millissa’s involvement with Altona Magic will be of great benefit to the Canberra club. It will provide an extra pathway for our A-league team and our current young players who are still developing. We see it as a wonderful advantage for our team.”

“We will meet Football Federation Australia on November 18th and present our case. I can see no reason why we would not be accepted into the League for season 2010/11.

“It’s been a fantastic week for Canberra football. Ned Zelic has joined as our Number One Ambassador and now Mrs Fischer-Massa has joined the Bid. It’s full steam ahead.

“Foundation Members still have chance to sign up; more members will only increase our strength.

“On Thursday we have “Our night at the A-League,” our special guest will be Ned Zelic, I think it’s fair to say we’ll be pretty upbeat,” said Slavich.

Eamonn, can you tell us what involvement Fischer-Massa is going to have in the bid? She's obviously quite serious about becoming involved in an A-League bid, this is shown by her involvement in previous Melbourne consortiums and a North Queensland bid, but is she going to be heavily involved in Canberra or is she just acting as another ambassador? Just interested to know!

Anyway, did anyone happen to read the smh.com.au article by that blowhard Matt Hall the other day titled 'Four Fight for Soul Spot" http://www.smh.com.au/news/sport/football/a-league/four-fight-for-soul-spot/2008/11/01/1224956398861.html

Once again he pretty much dismisses Canberra's bid out of hand while championing the mysterious (non-existent?) West Sydney bid and the Wollongong bid. He mentions that the Sun Herald "has received information" that the FFA commissioned a confidential report to assess the viability of each major region in Australia to host a new A-League team. Western Sydney was placed first by a clear margin, followed by Melbourne, Gold Coast, Townsville, Wollongong and Canberra.

A bit worrying if this is true. How bloody Wollongong could be rated above Canberra is a mystery considering their smaller population and the fact that they don't even have a suitable stadium. I'm also a bit bemused about how West Sydney could be rated first. Sydney is struggling to find the crowds for one A-League side, let alone two. I'm sure a lot of Sydney FCs fans travel from out west anyway, so a second side is bound to just water down their support. There's no guarantee a West based side would draw the crowds anyway. Maybe the two men and their dog who supported Parra Power would come out?

Anyway, I'm getting a bit sick of the likes of Matt Hall, Ray Gatt and Mike Bloody Cockerill pushing for West Sydney and Wollongong. Would be nice to hear something in the national press about what's going on in Canberra.

Andy you clearly right on top of all this.

I've seen all the FFA Analysis and can't say too much but we're okay with the findings. Matt's take on it was limited prob due to his space.

Also we expect to have some significant national coverage prior to the 18th Nov when we meet the FFA.

Other bids may have more noise but we are proceeding very nicely we feel. We have all the money required and will take this to the FFA.

Can't say too much, other than West Sydney sre clearly a big threat, even though no bid is very progressed, smoke and mirrors everywhere..and the rumour that the second Melbourne bid is in trouble...could be a rumour but you never know.

At the end of the day we need to worry about ourselves our model and if we present a strong business case we'll get in. 12 13 or 14 although we are desperate for that 2th place.

We are in a very strong position now and will put our case forward more strategically from here on.

Now we all know where the money was coming from, dint we. She has a history of doing this. As evidenced by other enterprises
