ACT Men's Premier League
Canberra FC and Belconnen win, Olympic drop points, O'Connor at the death.
Canberra FC defeated ANU FC 4-2. Canberra FC raced to a 3-0 half-time lead, sat in their new dressing rooms and thought the game was over.
ANU hit back to make it 3-2 before Canberra re-awoke and stuck one in. Kole Aitken 2, Paul Ivanic of course and Alex Castro scored for Canberra.
Canberra FC closed the gap on Belconnen who beat Tuggeranong United 1-0 in front of a $5 per person crowd. See earlier post for Belco report.
Olympic 0 Queanbeyan City 0
City Coach Goran Neveski was happy but couldn't believe his side didn't win as they had the better chances. In fact he's disappointed they haven't picked up six points from the last two games.
Still encouraging signs for City and they hope to get their first win against ANU FC next week. I'm sure ANU will have other thoughts.
As for Olympic, a top two finish is almost beyond them surely, even at this stage of the season.
O'Connor Knights 1 Woden Valley 0
Football can be a cruel game. Ask the Iraqi's and ask the lads from Woden Valley. Coach Paul Gagetti said his side had 60% of possession, and had the better chances. Martin Zygmunt again shone for Valley but unfortunately after Tal Evans was sent off in the 80th minute the Knights scored in the last minute.
Isn't that just typical of football?
Is Tal Evans a marked man? His second send-off, by the same referee, and by all accounts only one was worth a booking.
Still Woden, and Queanbeyan continue to improve as the season goes on, putting pressure on their more fancied opponents.
Canberra Olympic the big losers this weekend. Coach Ian Heyward won't be happy with that. Other results went to form. Hats off to Queanbeyan City again, that's two points in two weeks.
