Cheryl Salisbury out!

Matildas inspirational Captain Cheryl Salisbury will miss the crucial Asian Cup tie with Japan.

A strong performance against Korea Republic has left the Matildas needing just a draw to be certain of going through to the Asian Cup semi-finals in Vietnam.

But they'll have to do without Australia's most capped footballer. Salisbury has a calf strain and will definitely miss the game. Kate McShea is expected to take her place.

Despite winning the first two games the Matildas could still struggle to qualify.

Japan thrashed Taiwan overnight 11-0, meaning if they beat Australia, and Korea beat Taiwan as expected three teams would have four points.

Australia, Japan and Korea Republic. The group would then be decided by the Head to Heads between these three sides, and results against Taiwan would be wiped.

If Australia were to lose 2-0 to Japan they would go out, a 1-0 defeat would still see them through.

The Japan game will be a real test for the young Matildas team, but I'm tipping a win!

The games on Monday 8pm AEST.

If Australia go through, they will be up against Asian powerhouses North Korea or China in the Semi's.

hi eamonn I am confused .
See formula below.
Japan beat aus 2/1 japan would still got through and korea would miss out?

If two or more Teams are equal on the basis of the above criterion, their place shall be determined in the following sequence and order:
A)
Greater number of points obtained in the group matches between the Teams concerned;
B)
Goal difference resulting from the group matches between the Teams concerned;
C)
Greater number of goals scored in the group matches between the Teams concerned;
D)
Goal difference in all the group matches;
E)
Greater number of goals scored in all the group matches;
F)
Kicks from the penalty mark if only two Teams are involved and they are both on the field of play;

Confused meself, but had it told to me by the FFA

If Japan beat Australia 2-1 and Korea win then three teams have 4 points

so it's decided on the goal difference between the three teams. Take the goals against Taiwan out.

If Japan beat Aus 2-1

would read

Japan goals for 3 against 4
Austr 3 2 against
Korea 3-3

Therefore Japan out!

Am I any help at all, at all:)

as we say on radio, Nearpost as clear as mud...
and what we don't know about football...we make up:)

But Matildas won't lose!!
