Western Sydney ahead? Not in financial terms

What to do with Canberra? If Western Sydney is ahead as media reports suggest and I doubt it from what I'm hearing, what will the FFA do with Canberra?

Canberra has more money, better community support, better football infrastructure, more padi-up foundation members....but Western Sydney are ahead.

You work it out! Expect more of this media stuff in coming days as FFA meet with Western Sydney and if there is any semblance of a bid at any level that is credible from Western Sydney then you can expect leaks and powderpuff stories to come flying as the FFA/Sydney are media are desperate to build on anything that resembles a real bid

You might ask why has it taken so long...indeed where is Lucas Neill and his bid! Remember him?

Western Sydney ahead

Canberra's A-League bid chief Ivan Slavich saying it's a case of now or never for the largely untapped ACT marketplace.

"We've demonstrated to the FFA that there is support for football in the region, we've got the financial backing and we've got strong support from the local government, so we've got all the criteria covered," he said yesterday.

Eamonn, if your heart is soley place in Canberra getting the green light into the A-League, I'd start booking yourself into a mental clinic well and truly before the FFA decision is made. You can just keep burying your head in the sand but like it or not a new Sydney team will enter the league by 2010 and this so called Canberra team will have to accept a place in the second division in the coming years. Keep dreaming Eamonn, when the FFA makes their decision you'll be pissing your pants in sadness and disbelief and I'll be here saying I told you so!

Ha ha ha don't worry about my mental health Scott.

You've come along way Scott, now you think we should have a place in the Second Division..what next promotion and we're into the A-League

I thought you said it couldn't happen! So we've clearly changed your mind on that one.

Be brave Scott be brave.....guess you weren't there when they build Rome were you?

No disrespect to you what-so-ever Eamonn but this Canberra bid is going to need all the luck the world to get over the line. You're a very optimistic person I've got to hand you that Eamonn and I reckon you were there in stands still very optimistic back then when the Cosmos were playing in front of a near empty homeground stadium every second week hoping with great optimism things would get better.
As I said Eamonn keep dreaming Eamonn, and you'll probably keep dreaming of Canberra getting into the A-league for many more years to come so please for your health sake and mental wellbeing be prepared for a very long wait indeed.

Should be an interesting few weeks...

A second Sydney team is a safe choice for FFA - big population, big market, choice of stadiums - its the least-risk location on paper.

The problem is that there is no coherent 2nd Sydney bid - even Tasmania is more organised than both Sydney consortiums (and Tassie rank as 5th most likely to get a side). FFA aren't foolish enough to hand a licence to anyone that isn't organised and doesn't tick all the boxes.
